Monica Hernandez is a Bronx based visual artist whose oil paintings explore memory, identity, and representation. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, she draws from personal and collective histories to examine the layered experience of identity, particularly for those negotiating diaspora, memory, and self definition.
Working primarily in oil, Hernandez approaches the body and interior spaces as metaphysical terrains, sites of dislocation, desire, and reinvention. Her paintings use vibrant colors and shifting perspectives to reflect the fluidity of growing up and the ongoing search for belonging.
She received her BFA from Hunter College in 2017 and has exhibited in galleries, art fairs, and museums, earning recognition for her narrative approach to painting. As someone who moved at a young age, Hernandez is drawn to the idea of home, not only as a physical place but as a feeling carried within. Her work layers time and space, capturing the way we hold onto the past while continually stepping into who we are becoming.
